Rad Power Bikes error 23: Motor phase fault

High severity Service soon

Can I ride home with this error?

Ride with caution. Motor support may stop; pedal gently and do not keep restarting the motor on hills.

What it means

The system sees abnormal motor current patterns. On LCD bikes it often means a problem with the motor phase wires; on colour displays it can be overheating from hill climbing or a faulty controller.

Likely causes

  • Motor overheated from hill climbing
  • Dirty, wet or damaged motor connector
  • Faulty controller

Symptoms

  • Error 23 on the display
  • LED display: pedal assist levels 0 and 1 flash
  • Motor shuts off

How to fix it

  1. Turn the bike off and let the motor cool.
  2. Remove the battery; unplug the motor connector near the rear wheel (pull straight, no twisting).
  3. Check it is clean, dry and undamaged, then reconnect lining up the arrows.
  4. If the connector is damaged or the error continues (even without hills), contact Rad Power Bikes support.
